Georgetown (Williamson County)GAF Energya Industry standard and one of North America’s leading solar rooftop providers, signed a lease and began construction of a 450,000 square foot facility in the city.

Developer will be Austin-based Design Builders Arco Murray and St. Louis, Missouri GMA Architects is on board the project.

The manufacturing plant will be located at the southeast corner of Interstate 35 and the SE Inner Loop and construction is expected to be complete in June 2023.

“We are delighted that GAF Energy has chosen Georgetown as the destination for its facilities,” said the Mayor of Georgetown. Josh Schröder said. “Their innovative product is one that will change the market as we know it, and we are thrilled to have it developed right here in our backyard.”

Once upgrades are complete, the new facility will serve as the company’s second U.S. manufacturing center for its award-winning solar roof, Timberline Solar. Featuring the world’s first nailable solar shingle, Timberline Solar is the only roofing system to directly integrate solar technology into traditional roofing processes and materials.

We launched Timberline Solar because we believed more consumers would choose the solar power if they had a more reliable, sustainable and attractive option. The market has confirmed our belief – now we are turning that belief into reality and building the future of clean energy here in the United States.”

GAF Energy plans to hire 265 employees in high-tech jobs over the next 10 years at the Georgetown plant. The total capital investment for the project is estimated at over $100 million for this period.

GAF Energy will receive a total combined incentive package worth over $3.24 million from local jurisdictions, including a 10-year property tax abatement of 75% for business personal property and 50% for real estate, valued at $2.35 million; a five-year job creation grant totaling $395,000 from the Georgetown Economic Development Corporation and the retirement of renewable energy credits to offset the company’s electricity consumption for five years to certify that the facility uses 100% renewable energy, worth $500,000.

The 10-year net economic impact for Georgetown is estimated at $3.75 million.
